Launch Week

Just a reminder that this Sunday, October 18, New City Presbyterian Church will begin regular worship services. We meet at Cincinnati Mennonite Fellowship in Oakley (directions here) at 5pm. We hope you'll join us this Sunday as we celebrate communion, start our first sermon series, and begin weekly worship.

Children are always welcome in our worship services. We offer a nursery for kids ages 0-3.

Preview Service Sunday Sep 27

Our second Preview Service is coming up this Sunday, September 27. We'll meet from 5:00-6:15 at Cincinnati Mennonite Fellowship (directions here). Parking is available on the street near the church. As always, children are welcome in worship. We do offer a nursery for children ages 0-3.

We are treating these Preview Services as an opportunity for us to get used to our worship space in preparation for our Launch of weekly worship on October 18. They also are a chance for folks interested in New City to get a taste of what our worship services will be like.

We hope you'll join us this Sunday.

We had our first Preview Service last Sunday. It was a great time to worship the Lord, get used to our space, and give folks a flavor for what worship at New City will be like. See below for some pictures. Our next Preview Service will be Sunday September 27. Regular worship services will begin October 18.

First Preview Service | August 30

Our first Preview Service is this Sunday night! It's hard to believe that we are moving now out of the realm of the theoretical into the actual nuts and bolts of starting this church. Our plan is to have two "preview services" leading up to our Launch on October 18.

These services will be less of a preview of everything that the church is about, and more of a sample of what our worship gatherings will look like at New City.

We hope you can make it. It's this Sunday (Aug 30), 5pm at Cincinnati Mennonite Fellowship (4229 Brownway Ave, 45209). The service will last until about 6:15pm. As always, kids are welcome in our worship. We will offer a nursery for ages 0-3. There is street parking only, but there should be plenty of spaces available nearby.

Community Groups

At New City, we want to see people connect with God, connect with other people, and connect to mission. One of the best ways to move forward in all these areas is in the context of small group community. To that end, we'll be starting 2 Community Groups the last week of August.

These groups will be designed for people to get to know each other better, study the Bible, and explore if New City might be a church where you want to get involved. Both groups will be identical in content, but will meet in different locations on different days of the week.

Not sure if you want to make a long-term commitment to a community group? These groups are perfect for you to come and check things out. They will run from late August until November. This will give you a chance to see if you want to join a more permanent group in the winter. And if you come once and don't want to come back, that's okay too.

Here's the details:

Both groups meet from 7-8:30pm. Everyone is welcome, whether you're interested in New City Pres or not. No need to RSVP. Just show up. Bring a Bible if you like (but we'll have some extras if you forget).
Tuesday Group -- Meets in Oakley. Starts August 25.
Thursday Group -- Meets in Mt. Lookout. Starts August 27.

Coffeehouse | July 30 at Red Tree

New City is hosting a coffeehouse on Thursday July 30 from 7-10pm at the Red Tree Gallery in Oakley. Come out and join us for live music and free coffee all night long. And by all means, invite some friends to come along with you.

This will be our last informal gathering of the summer. In August we hope to start small groups and have our first Preview Service in preparation for our official launch in October. Details to come.

Picnic June 28

We hope you'll join us for our next New City gathering on Sunday June 28 at Ault Park. We will be meeting at the picnic area next to the playground on Heekin Ave (see map below). Bring a blanket and/or chairs and some food to share. We'll supply the drinks. We'll have frisbees and whiffle ball, and there is a playground for kids. No need to RSVP, just come out and join us. And feel free to invite friends.

May Barbecue

Though we're slated to start small groups and worship services this fall, in the meantime, we are hosting monthly gatherings to create space for those interested in New City to get to know one another better and to get a feel for what the new church will be like. In May, we had a barbecue at the Reitanos. Good food, good people, good weather.

April Informational Meeting

On April 26 New City had its very first public meeting of any kind. We rented the Red Tree Gallery on Oakley Square and hosted 55 people for an informal meet and greet (see pictures below). I (Josh) was able to share a brief vision for the church and take some questions. The turnout was great, and we made a lot of good connections.

Our plan is to begin worship services in October. But in the meantime, we plan to gather interested people together once per month over the summer for food and fellowship. We have hopes of starting small groups in the month of September.

Welcome

This is the temporary online home of New City Presbyterian Church. We are a new church in the neighborhood of Oakley (northeast of downtown Cincinnati). We hope to have our website up and running by the end of the summer, but in the meantime, check back here for information about upcoming events and just to stay in touch.

Regular worship services for New City are slated to begin in October 2009, but we'll have several gatherings over the summer, along with the launch of our community groups this fall.
